Understanding the Big Picture - The Basic 10
We receive many phone calls from clinics asking how long it will take to train a new employee. While there are many variances with each new hire; computer experience, billing experience, and learning ability, there are only a few basic tasks they need to learn. Let's take a quick look at the big picture and as you read through these items, ask yourself, does my staff have these skills and are they doing them regularly?
1. Enter New Patient Information Properly (checking "Signatures On File" in accordance to clinic contracts and policy)
2. Enter Appointments
3. Enter Charges, Payments and Adjustments
4. Balance Daily Entries (auditing appointments, charges, payments and adjustments)
5. Sending Claims (preferable daily, but not less than once per week)
6. Sending Statements (at least once per month to ALL patients that owe money)
7. Perform Follow-up Functions (procedures defined in clinic's policy for self-pay, contract and non-contract accounts)
8. Backup Medisoft Daily (Review previous blog for good rotation procedure.)
9. Run File Maintenance (at least monthly, but preferably weekly)
10. Stay abreast of industry changes by reading newsletters, websites and remittance advice information.
After reading this list, if you or your staff need addition training, just fax us the training form and we will get you on your way to "The Billing Answer".
