    The diagnosis codes are put out by the World Health Organization and are updated October 1st of each year.  Currently, we use the ICD-9 CM to document and bill.  However, we will someday soon be switching to the ICD-10 CM codes.  These are codes that contain up to seven digits and the first one begins with an alpha character denoting the providers specialty.  This will aid in tracking morbidity and mortality based on specialty.  You can find numerous free resources by searching ICD-9 on the Internet.  Here are a few goodies:
