Free Medisoft Help and Free Billing Help

All of us feel a little helpless at times when we are trying to learn something new or troubleshoot an issue.   Medisoft (as well as most software) has three forms of free help.   Here is where you can find them.

Medisoft Manual - The Medisoft Manual is located on your installation CD.  Many users save a copy to their Desktop or print a copy.  Office shops like Office Max or Kinkos can usually bind the manual for you for around $15.00.

Help within Medisoft - Medisoft has a help section located within the program.  To access Help hit the F1 key wherever you are stuck or select Help from the top menu bar and Medisoft Help from the drop-down menu.

Medisoft Knowledge Base - Medisoft has a great online Help that is called the Knowledge Base.  This has the most up to date information about Medisoft and billing issues such as NPI numbers or Medicare changes.

Along with Medisoft help, most of us also  need  billing assistance.  Here are a couple sites you can refer to find help along the way.

Your Local Medicare Carrier - Your local Medicare carrier is a great resource to find the latest information on changes in billing practices.  To find the website for your carrier, look on your remittance advice or any communication piece they may send you.

Your Local Medicaid Carrier - Your local Medicaid carrier also has good information.  Both the state and federal agencies tend to be ahead of changes in billing regulations.  Again, look to your remittance advice or other communication to find their website.

Your Local Board or Association - Each specialty has a board or association that assists its members to stay abreast of changes in their field.  These groups are also excellent resources for changes in billing regulations.

Finally, if you are still stuck; we can connect to you via  Live Links  and problem solve any Medisoft or billing issue.

I am glad there is help out there but if you can't find the answer and you can't afford to get help then what? I have been trying to get the insurance form to print out right but I can't seem to figure out how to fix the transaction detail band. I have tried everything. I have changed the size but then that just makes my transactions more then one line apart. Everything lines up but I can hardly see that band in the report designer and when I print it prints out only the upper portion of the numbers and leaves out the next line in box 24K. (NPI number) I am going bonkers trying to fix it!!! Any suggestions?

Thank you for your email.  I have three suggestions for you.

      1)  We started a Medisoft User Group at:  http://groups.google.com/group/medisoft-and-medical-billing.  Our hope is that Medisoft users would unite and help each other to make their experience better and their work day more enjoyable.  Please join  and post your questions today and spread the word to your fellow Medisoft users.   The more the merrier and the more questions that get resolved!

      2)  There are three forms of free support that come with Medisoft: Help within the Program (or Report Designer specifically for you), the manual and my favorite source of help; the Knowledge Base (K  at www.medisoft.com (click on Support and the Knowledge Base).  A good article for you to check out on the KB is Article # 107691.   This article gives you step by step instructions on aligning the CMS form.

      Or this link: http://physkb.ndchealth.com/display/2/index.asp?c=4636&cpc=g730m4yXs0v1AOScNwjaTl&cid=4782&cat=&catURL=&r=0.3464929

      3)  It sounds like you may be still using the old HCFA form and need to make sure you are using the new CMS form to get your NPI numbers to print.

Finally, Medisoft is just like anything else in life.  Depending upon your expertise, some things you are able to do yourself;and some you might be better off paying someone else.  For example: when it comes to a car, the manual shows me how to change my oil.  But, I would not ever do that and don't even understand how to open the hood of my car!  On the other hand, other people are gifted enough to tear apart and put together an entire engine.
Your time is worth something too and may be better used in your area of expertise.  Aligning claim forms is an area that might make sense to get help.  If we can help you, just complete our form and fax it back to us with a couple of times you are available.  We will call to confirm your appointment.

Since the May 23, 2008 deadline for NPI, the Medicare and Masshealth claims keep being rejected by MedAvant for 1 "claim level--supervisig provider NPI is missing. 2-Claim level-supervising provider Primary Ident number is missing or invalid". All NPI numbers are in the correct places. I have tried calling the clearing house NDCHealth EDI support, but it's either busy or the hold time greater than 45 min. As a solo dr. office, time is valuable and the budget tight. Medisoft support is very expensive and it ran out in April, when we thought all glitches were taken care of. We use Medisoft version 11, have downloaded service packs 3 & 4, have downloaded 11.18 and 11/19 updates as well with no success. Thanks for any input. I have checked and double checked every avenue available on the web and phone (if it's possible to get thru to anyone). thanks for any assisitance.

Many of us are getting claims denials since the NPI law became effective on May 23, 2008.   The bulk of the rejects are coming from your contract payers.    Here’s some steps you can take to problem solve this:

      1)      Make a list of all your contract payers.  (Probably less than a half dozen.)

      2)      Review the materials the payers sent you (newsletter, messages on remittance advices, website info, etc.) and see if they still want the legacy numbers.  (Boxes 17a, 24J, 32B and 33  If you can’t find the answer, call.

      3)      Most companies are moving towards not wanting the legacy numbers and this is causing the rejects.  If you still have them on your claim form, remove them from Medisoft.  (Here’s where you can find the information in Medisoft; 17a = Lists/Referring Providers, 24J and 33B = Lists/Providers, 32B = Lists/Addresses)

We also have a free claim form manual available.  If you wish to have a copy, just email us with “Free Claim Form Manual” in the subject line.

I'm having a problem with font kerning. No matter what font I use, reports and statements print with the fonts overlapping--there is not enough space between them. I've played with the font type and the size, but it still prints the same. In preview it looks fine, but will not print properly. Any ideas?

Is there any medisoft users out there that are able to post medicaid checks electronically to accounts? If so, I need to know how and what forms are filled out by medicaid to get the R&S's sent in a format that I can receive and post to.

We have a problem billing claims in cases were the insurer was not initially filled in. We fill in the insurer but the program will put only the first days transaction (or none) on a claim. After that you can not get the rest to print. The program says all transactions have been placed on a claim. Any help?

Thank you for your comment.    As your email name states you are likely more advanced than most users.  We wanted to provide an area where users from all backgrounds would know where there are free resources.   Many have thanked us for broadcasting this.
